What Size Fire Extinguisher Do I Need For My Car? Reading How a Two-Step Contest Erupted into Two Car Fires 3 minutes

Lenny knows what it feels like to be inside a burning car.

Years ago, he was riding down the highway in a friend’s car when faulty wiring under the dash sparked a fire.

“We tried pouring water on it, and it actually made the flames bigger,” he recalls. “We didn’t know what to do.”

They pulled over and managed to put the fire out, but the car had to be towed 70 miles for major repairs.

That day inspired Lenny to start carrying a fire extinguisher in his own car. He never wanted to feel that helpless again.

That choice paid off one fateful night at a two-step competition.

The packed event was bursting with energy, cars lining up, crowds pressed close to the action. Engines roared against their limiters, shooting crackling flames from their tailpipes.

Lenny had brought his Toyota Supra, a passion project he’d been working on for more than four years.

As he waited for his turn to compete, he spotted smoke pouring from a nearby Mazda RX-7.

“The smoke just kept going, nonstop. Next thing you know, it just burst into flames. The driver jumped out, staring at it like he’s in shock,” he recalls.

Lenny grabbed his extinguisher, sprinted through the crowd, and blasted the flames.

In seconds, the fire was gone. The RX-7 was saved before the fire trucks could have even reached it.

With the danger behind him, Lenny finally felt like he could relax and enjoy the show. The crowd roared with approval as cars popped and crackled on the line.

Then it was his turn. As soon as he hit the two-step, he knew something was wrong.

The extreme heat from his exhaust had melted the wiring for his underglow lights. Flames licked at his back bumper, filling the air with the sharp smell of burning plastic.

He grabbed his nearly-empty extinguisher and prayed it would be enough, because the fire trucks were still on the other end of the field. If he had to wait for them, it would be too late.

But he was packing an H3R Performance extinguisher, and it still held enough charge to kill the flames on his Supra.

In seconds, he put out his second fire of the night.

Today, Lenny’s Supra is still on the road, and he’s just finished building a 1,000-horsepower Mitsubishi Evo. And he’ll never drive without an H3R extinguisher at the ready.

“You see it on the internet and think it will never happen to you. Well, it does happen. And it felt pretty cool being able to jump into action and help someone out. It was a real lifesaver that day.”
