In a disaster zone, you can’t always trust the map.
After a hurricane, tornado, or flood, the roads can vanish underwater. Bridges can be damaged, unstable, or gone altogether. Downed trees, power lines, and debris can turn every mile into a challenge.
People affected by the disaster may need food, water, supplies, or emergency assistance. But they may be cut off from the outside world.
In those situations, emergency crews need a vehicle that can keep going even when there is no road left to follow.
That’s where the SHERP comes in.
Built for the worst conditions
Originally developed in Ukraine, the SHERP was built for places where ordinary vehicles can’t go. It can traverse marsh, mud, snow, ice, debris, and terrain that would stop conventional vehicles. It can even float across open water.

“Our units are used in the most extreme environments,” said Nick Satkovich, owner of SHERP Northeast. “SHERPs can traverse terrain with no roads, no bridges. Literally, your only other option is air.”
SHERP Northeast provides all-terrain amphibious vehicles to first responders, emergency management agencies, commercial users, and private customers across a massive territory stretching from Maine to Florida and west to Texas.
Nick describes the vehicle as a foundation that can be outfitted for the mission with emergency lights, scene lighting, rescue equipment, Starlink connectivity, rear seating, even a tethered drone.

In disaster-response work, that can turn the SHERP into a mobile command and rescue platform for reaching people and places ordinary vehicles can’t.
But that same extreme capability also raises the stakes for preparedness.
Mission-ready fire protection
A SHERP may be operating far from the nearest tow truck, repair crew, or fire station. If a fire breaks out, even first responders may not be able to count on backup reaching them quickly.
“You need to put that fire out,” Nick said. “Because, listen, you’re in the middle of nowhere, and there’s no help coming. You are the help.”
That’s why SHERP Northeast treats fire protection as fundamental to every build.
The clean agent advantage
Nick first installed H3R Performance extinguishers in his own customized 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon. So when it came time to equip SHERPs, he already knew the advantage of clean-agent extinguishers.
“I love the idea of a clean agent,” Nick said. “It’s not powder-based, so you’re not going to ruin your interior or any electronics.”
That can make a major difference in a vehicle carrying communications equipment, lighting, rescue gear, and other mission-critical systems.
Secured for extreme terrain
Choosing the right extinguisher is only half the job. The mounting is just as important.
In any vehicle, a fire extinguisher needs to be secured where the driver or passengers can reach it quickly, and where it won’t become a hazard.
That’s especially true in a SHERP, which can operate at steep angles. In rough terrain, loose equipment can become dangerous fast.
“Fire extinguishers aren’t light,” Nick said. “We can’t have them rolling around.”
SHERP Northeast is also looking at extinguisher access from both the front and rear, so crews have protection close at hand wherever they are.

Prepared for the unexpected
SHERPs don’t come from the factory with fire extinguishers. But SHERP Northeast installs an H3R extinguisher in every vehicle it sells.
“We believe so much in safety, we took it upon ourselves to include the fire extinguisher at no cost to our clients,” Nick said.
For a vehicle built to go where ordinary help can’t, that kind of preparation is part of the mission.
Because when there’s no help coming, the right equipment isn’t optional. It’s how you make sure everyone gets home safely.
"These units are purpose-built to go out when it's the worst of the worst. We want our clients to be prepared."
